Painting Techniques – Grisaille and Glazing – course size is limited to 5 people
Sept. 11, 2018 through Oct. 16, 2018 – 6 sessions.
Adrian will provide you with step by step instructions on how to create a three dimensional still life in oil using a painting technique (grisaille) from the Venetian school of art.
During the initial lesson, Adrian will supply you with a specially prepared 12 x 12 inch board. You will then be able to choose, with Adrian’s guidance, one of several carefully arranged still life set ups.
In the weeks that follow, Adrian will offer commentary, technical advice and give real time demonstrations as you work your way through the three basic stages of the Renaissance painting process:
- You make the initial pencil sketch.
- You cover the pencil sketch with an “underpainting” in shades of grey.
- You then move on to glazing and scumbling in glowing, transparent color!
At the end of the class, you will have a new insight into how our great Old Master colorists required an underpainting in grisaille to achieve their color magic.
