Tim
Coldren has been a friend since the artist moved to Pennsylvania. As the head of Monroe Coldren & Son Antiques, Tim specializes in
antique hardware - lights, locks, hinges - the "jewelry of the
house". He is an essential part of a network of "old
house" people that help each other with their high maintenance 18th
and early 19th century homes. The artist has spent countless hours at
Tim's business on Virginia Avenue with friends discussing, sometimes very energetically, antiques, old
houses, local history, sports, beer and the meaning of life in general.
In this painting, Tim is at the forge in the back of his shop surrounded
by antiques and the antique tools that he uses to repair them and get
them in good working order. As a professional, Tim's abilities include
not only dealing in antiques and consulting but he is also a
"maker", a highly skilled craftsman in metal. Like all the
other "old house" people in his group of friends, Tim takes
pride in work that is done with his own hands and in the craftsmanship
that each of them in their own way loves and tries to keep alive.
