Landscapes

As a child growing up in Washington, D.C., Martinez was exposed to a landscape of row houses standing behind cracked, weed infested sidewalks.  In graduate school he had a choice of the London cityscape, or the almost existentially flat plains of Indiana; Then there was North Central Texas with its mesquite trees, oil derricks and parched fields of soybeans.  It is no wonder the artist was intoxicated by the Pennsylvania countryside and for the first time in his artistic career began to paint landscapes.  The forests, the farmland, and the history of Chester County have proved endlessly inspiring.
